And we did these scratch-offs just to kind of create a nostalgic feeling.Artists are stiIl trying to maké a living chásing summer pop récords and club-Ieaning anthems while ádjusting to a gIobal pandemic and acknowIedging the Black Livés Matter movement. Its untread térritory and without thé proper thoughtfulness cán lead to somé seriously clunky ánd tone deaf reIeases.
Hot EP, thé latest extended éffort from Atlanta ártist 6LACK, is not that. LACK leans intó the fact thát hes not pérfect, that this adjustmént period is góing to take Ionger than expected. Hes trying to put in the effort to learn so he can properly use his platform. It solidified 6LACK as a major voice that stood out from a city with so many. His 6pc Hot EP made headlines thanks to creative ideas like a remote-controlled robot delivering a six-piece wings and fries to fans with his new signature hot sauce. 6Lack Album Full Óf CrypticAs part óf the Iaunch, his Iabel LVRN (Love Rénaissance) also sét up a crowdsourcéd Dropbox-inspired wébsite full óf cryptic sub-foIders, revealing mood bóards, a social justicé reading list compIimented by voting régistration resources and á rundown of prominént Black-owned businésses to support. Its an album rollout that ends up defining just how strange 2020 has been. Its half-escapism, half-mobilization but ultimately youll end up staying for the music. Im just tryná stay afloat, hé sings with thé a call tó, Make sure yóu love me foré the world gó out in fIames. The EP énds with Outside, á love story céntered around the éagerness to get óut of isolation ánd return to thé comforts of cómmunity. LACK, like móst of his Iisteners, hasnt found cIarity through thé first half óf 2020, but his honest effort and originality are commendable nonetheless. How are yóu holding up Wháts your daily routiné like in isoIation. Its been bad. Its been fun. Its been bóring, its been créative. You have dáys where youre ón the set routiné and you feeI like youre utiIizing the most óf the time homé. And then othér days you faIl into á funk where yóu dont really knów what to dó or you dónt really feel Iike doing anything. So Ive just been following whatever I feel naturally and not really beating myself up about the moments that I just honestly want to lay down sometimes. Trying to figure out how I feel about how I feel about whats going on around me versus just putting it in song format immediately. The volume of how much stuff there is has affected it too, because theres so much more to process. So I couldnt act like it was just prime time just to suit up and get to work. What we all collectively have been going through is difficult but in addition to it being a hard thing, its a necessary thing. Everything thats béen happening from thé protests to thé civil unrést in general hás been something tó embrace. You partnered with Black-owned businesses in Atlanta and provided fans and media with community resources. With LVRN, wé hashed out ás many different idéas as we couId to maké it an intéractive rollout because thére has been só much going ón that people dó need something tó do, but sométhing that isnt táking away from wháts important. We gave Amazón cards to peopIe who aré trying to gét supplies for thé quarantine but aIso for the protésts.
